北天燈、南蜂炮，已經成為元宵節的重頭戲，因為習俗上，被蜂炮炸過可以去掉霉運，所以每年鹽水蜂炮總是吸引數萬名民眾熱情參與，連國外媒體及友人都趨之若鶩！ 每年農曆元月14、15日是最值得鹽水人驕傲，引為自豪的元宵放烽炮。神轎所到之處，鎮民燃放鞭炮，各種烽炮煙火，爆竹沖透雲霄，聲咎如雷，滿天烽火，煙雲罩霧，既美麗、又壯觀。整個鹽水鎮的街道都被炮紙覆蓋著，幾乎看不到柏油路面。遊客來自外國與全省各地，每個人都想親睹元宵夜的熱鬧、緊張、刺激。鹽水武廟又稱「關帝廟創」建於永曆年間，至嘉慶4年(1799)鹿港林文濬因案至台灣府城，召還時因感關帝聖君保佑他平安無事，遂出資改建，始見規模。光緒十一年七、八月間，鹽水街流行難亂瘟疫，當時因醫藥不發達，死者日眾，居民恐慌，祈求關聖帝君解災救難。關聖帝君乃於元宵夜命周倉將軍為前導，帝君神轎後，眾信隨神轎一路燃放鞭炮，遶境大街小巷至天明，將邪魔一掃而除。自此，後代子孫每年均沿習往例，迎請關聖帝君元宵夜出巡。這種當初單純的燃放鞭炮蛻變為「蜂炮」、「炮城」等活動，奠定今日鹽水遠近馳名的民俗特色。居民咸信在元宵當天，身上被炸得炮愈多，來年運勢就會愈旺，所以流傳百年的古老傳說，記得備妥安全帽、口罩和透明眼罩，外加雨衣、膠鞋等標準裝備，在每年元宵前出發到鹽水武廟，享受這一趟蜂炮嘉年華。
The lantern festival in Taiwan is characterized by sky lanterns in the north and beehive firecrackers in the south. Customarily, it is believed that bad luck would go away after one is bombed with beehive firecrackers. Hence, the Yanshuei Beehive Firecracker attracts tens of thousands enthusiastic participants, and even foreign media and visitors are attracted to the event. People in Yenshuei feel most proud on the 14th and 15th day of the first month on the Lunar Calendar because these are days to play beehive firecrackers. Wherever the god's sedan chairs go, town residents light firecrackers, and beehives, fireworks, and sparklers of all kinds shot up through the sky with loud thundering sounds, coming with beautiful misty smokes and lighting up the night sky in a magnificent festive fashion. The streets of entire town of Yenshuei are so densely covered with scarps of firecracker paper that the surface of the asphalt road is hardly seen. Visitors from every corner of the nation and abroad are eager to see for themselves the thrilling and exciting scenery on the evening of Lantern Festival. Yenshuei Military Temple,The temple is also named "Guandi Miao," and was first established in the Yongli Reign Period. In the fourth year of the Jiacing Reign Period (1799), Lin Wun Jyun of Lugang came to Tainan (which was then the capital town of Taiwan) for a legal case. When he was released, he felt greatly thankful for Lord Guan Di's (Guan Gong) blessings and provided capital to refurbish the temple, laying the foundation for the temple's scale today. The custom of lighting beehive firecrackers is said to be deeply linked with the military temple. Legend has it that a plague once occurred in the Yenshuei area during the Guangshu Reign Period and the staggering number of people dying every day caused great panic among the residents. Not knowing what to do with the disease, they had no alternative but to ask gods and Buddha for a solution. Lord Guan Di had always been very efficacious in the local area, so they prayed to him for safety. Lord Guan Di answered to their plea just as expected. He ordered the residents to carry sedan chairs on the evening of the Lantern Festival with Jhou Cang He at the front of the parade team and his statue at the very back and firecrackers lit along the way through every street and lane along the border the Yenshuei area until dawn. After the night of Lantern Festival, the Yenshuei area became safe and the local people decided to make the firecracker parade an annual custom to remember with gratitude the blessings from Lord Guan Di. The custom continued to develop and became the current beehive event on the 14th and 15th day of the first month in the Lunar Calendar every year. Today, the event is hosted by the military temple and considered an annual grand occasion of folk art in the Yenshuei area, leaving glorious records on the history of Yenshuei. For the past one hundred years, the local residents have had the belief that the more firecrackers one is bombed with, the luckier he or she is in the coming new year. So remember to wear a helmet, mask, and transparent eye pads. Raincoats and plastic boots also come as part of the standard garments for the event. INTRODUCTION
Kenting National park, situated on the southernmost tip of Taiwan(the Hengchun Peninsula), consists of a total area of 32,631 hectares, 17,731 on land and 14,900 on sea. The peninsula's pleasant, oceantempered climate is the origin of the name Hengchun (恆春, Eternal Spring). Blessed with a vast array of physical features --- from bays, lakes, rifes, and coral reefs to grassy plains, hills, and primeval forests --- the park is rich in flora and fauna and in topographical and geological resources. The name 'Kenting' derives from the Ching Dynasty's recruitment, in 1879, of farmers to till the area --- it literally means 'plowman'. The park, as the peninsula, is surrounded on three sides by water --- the Pacific Ocean on the east, the Taiwan Strait to the west, and the Bashi Channel to the south.

THE SCENIC SPOTS OF KENTING NATIONAL PARK
1. Kweishan 龜山 --- Houwan 後灣
As visitors enter the park from Shinjie（新街）, the first landmark to meet their eyes is Kweishan, or Mount Turtle. Kweishan, a lowlying hill just 72 meters above sea level, gets its name from its shape, similar to a turtle's shell. Houwan, behind Kweishan, is a quiet little fishing village. Park headquarters plans to build a tourist service center here, complete with exhibit rooms, audiovisual equipment, and other explanatory material.
2. Hsiashuiku下水堀 --- Wonliton萬里桐 --- Hsunkuangtsui蟳廣嘴
The offshore coast from Hsiashuiku to Wonlliton, with its clear blue waters, belongs to an oceanic environmental protection area, and the sea bottom here is beautiful and ever changing. The coast from Wonliton to Hsunkuangtsui, which has been designated a future underwater park area, has a shallow, gentle slope teeming with numerous varieties of coral, which form one of the most abundant concentrations on Hengchun peninsula.
3. Guanshan 關山
Guanshan, also called Kaoshanyen（高山巖）, is about four kilometers form Hsunkuangtsui. The view from the top, 152 meters above sea level, is broad and vast.
4. Paisha 白砂
Paisha is about two kilometers to the right on the road south from Huanshan to Shanshuichuan. It gets its name from its pure white sandy beach, about 500 meters long and 40 wide. The area is suited year round for swimming, skin diving, sailing, and other kinds of water recreation.
5. Maobitou貓鼻頭 --- Leitashih 雷打石--- Houbihu後壁湖
About 3.5 kilometers from Paisha is Maobitou, or Cat's Tip, which gets its name from the shape of its coral reef coastline. Maobitou is the dividing point between the Taiwan Straits and the Bashi Channel. It and Oluanbi are the two most southerly points of Taiwan.
6. Lungluan Lake 龍鑾潭
Lungluan Lake is about six kilometers from Maobitou. Originally this low-lying area every rainy season turned into a land of lakes and pools, flooding surrounding fields and bringing devastation to farmers. Plans for building a reservoir were made as early as the Japanese Occupation but were never carried out. Then in 1948, after Retrocession, the R.O.C. government appropriated special funds and turned the lake into a reservoir. This not only bolstered water conservancy and irrigation but produced a beautiful scenic area as well.
7. Nanwan 南灣
Nanwan, or South Bay, a little fishing village, is also called Lanwan, or Blue Bay, for its deep blue waters. The soft, clean sandy beach stretches in an arc for some 600 meters and is ideal for swimming, sailing, and sunbathing. However, there is a strong undertow just offshore from the police station, so swimmers should remain within the designated swimming area.
8. Kenting Beach 墾丁海濱
Kenting Beach is about five kilometers from Nanwan. Chinese pioneers from Fukien Province began to settle here as early as the 1860s, and in 1877 the Ch'ing court brought in able-bodied recruits from Chaochow in Kuangtung Province to further open up the land. Kenting, which means 'Plowmen,' was named for those recruited laborers. In front of Kenting Beach is the Bashi Channel and in back is Tachienshan, or Mount Big Point. The beach is perhaps the most beautiful in all Taiwan. The deep blue sea gently laps the white sandy shore, and no dangerous reefs or sharks threaten swimmers offshore. Nearby trees offer cool and refreshing shade, while motels and restaurants along the coast provide food and lodging for tourists.
9. Kenting Ranch 墾丁牧場
This area was originally a settlement of the early Chinese pioneers, but because its dry, windy climate is unsuited to crop raising, it was turned into a ranch in 1904. Since 1958 it has been administered by the Taiwan Provincial Government's Hengchun Livestock Experimental Station. which experiments with sheep and cattle breeding, livestock medicine, and the propagation of forage grasses.
10. Chingwashih 青蛙石
Chingwashih, or Frog Rock, is 61 meters high. Viewed from the observation tower in the Kenting Forest Recreation Area, it looks just like a great green frog about to jump into the sea, and so gets its name. The calm little bay nearby is a fine place for water sports and recreation.
11. Tachienshan 大尖山
Tachienshen, or Mount Big Point, is 318 Meters high. Its appearance varies with the angle and distance from which it is viewed. Up close it looks like a great stone slab, but as seen from Oluanbi it rises boldly out of the surrounding country side and has acquired the epithet of the King of the Southern Peaks. It is the park's most prominent landmark. A footpath from Kinting Ranch leads up to the top, which affords a magnificent view of the ranch's free pasturelands, and the ocean near Nanwan.
12. Kenting Forest Recreation Area 墾丁森林遊樂區
This area, originally inhabited by one of the tribes belonging to the Paiwan aborigine group, was planted during the Japanese Occupation with some 513 species of tropical plants and named the Kenting Tropical Botanical Garden. In 1967 it came under the administration of the Taiwan Forestry Bureau and was renamed Kenting Forest Recreation Area.
13. Sheting Nature park 社頂自然公園
Sheting Nature Park is situated adjacent to the Kenting Forest Recreation Area and covers an area of 128.7 hectares. The trees that grow on the coral outcroppings here have been shaped by the northeast winter winds into bonsai-like creations that make the visitors marvel at the amazing artistry of Nature. The park is also blessed with an abundance of flora and fauna, limestone caves, broad grassy plains, and unusual coral formations, all of great value and interest. Because many of the 329 species of plants that grow here, such as Aristolochiaceae and Rutaceae, are favored by them, the area is home to over 50 types of butterflies, and their gaily colored wings can be seen everywhere fluttering in the breeze. The park is an ideal spot for butterfly fanciers and serious lepidopterists alike.
14. Chuanfanshih 船帆石
About four kilometers south along the newly opened road past Sheting Nature Park , one comes upon a giant boulder set upright in the sea. From a distance it resembles a sailing ship just under way and so gets its name --- Chuanfanshih, or Sail Rock. Up close it suffests to some a profile of former U.S. president Richard Nixon. Chuanfanshih is about 18 meters high. It is actually a piece of older coral that long ago rolled off the nearby tableland down to the sea.
15. Oluanbi park 鵝鑾鼻公園
Oluanbi, famous for its lighthouse and the site of a bronze statue to the late President Chiang Kai-shek, was established as a park on December 25,1982. The park covers 59 hectares of varied and unusual topograghy, with ridges, caves, and curious formations of limestone and coral shaped by wind, waves, sunshine, and rain. Hiking trails crisscross the area like a labyrinth connecting 18 viewpoints of exceptional interest. The scenery is magnificent -- brilliant sky, blue ocean, green trees, white sand, rugged coral reefs, and the distant peak of Tachienshan towering over the tableland covered with flowering sisal.
16. Fengchuisha 風吹砂
Fengchuisha, or Windblown Sand, an interesting stop on the way to Chialoshui, is about seven kilometers from Oluanbi. The neighboring areas are all coral rock. Only here has a mixture of sand red soil producing a natural 'sand river.' Summer rains wash the sand northeast, eventually forming a 70-meter 'sand cascade' from the tableland into the sea. Winter winds blow it back again southwest.

I. INTRODUCTION 簡介
Chengcing Lake is located in Kaohsiung County's Niaosong Township. It is the largest lake in the Kaohsiung area, developed originally as a reservoir to meet the need for water for industrial use. Later on the lake was improved through environmental landscaping, until today it offers the beauty of a forested park. It was opened to the public as a tourist destination in 1960.
The surface of the lake has a water area of more than 300 hectares, and the highway that has been built around it stretches for a total of seven kilometers.
The tranquil beauty of the area has led it to be given the sobriquet, "West Lake of Taiwan." The best known of the lake's attractions is probably its Bridge of Nine Turns, which was built in 1960; it is 230 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, and does indeed have nine turns.
Under the hill behind the Chuanxizhai is an aquarium that was originally built in 1961 as an anti-nuclear underground bunker. Its winding, 200-meter length was later remodeled into a tourist aquarium with exhibits of all sorts of oceanic organisms divided into eight display areas: special animals, treasures of the sea, shellfish, coral, strange rocks, and sperm whales. It is a place that is perfect for both entertainment and education.
澄清湖位於高雄縣鳥松鄉，是高雄第一大湖，舊名「大埤湖」或「大貝湖」，媲美大陸的西湖，也是重要的水源地和風景區。梅隴春曉、曲橋釣月步入巍峨的觀光大門一眼就見到兩座紅色中國式宮殿建築，左邊的是淡水館，右為海水館。館內陳列世界各國的珍奇魚類。
著名景點有三橋、六勝、八景，三橋是九曲橋、鵲橋和吊橋，六勝是自由亭、更上台、豐源閣、百花岡、富國島和千樹林，八景為梅隴春曉、曲橋鉤月、柳岸觀蓮、高丘望海、深樹鳴禽、湖山佳氣、三亭攬勝和蓬島湧金。在曲橋釣月景緻中最有名的就屬九曲橋，九曲橋建於民國49年(西元1960）橋長230公尺，寬2.5公尺，支柱七支，橋面迴折九彎，故名為九曲橋。
鳥松濕地公園位在澄清湖大門的東側，是國內第一個人工濕地公園，植被及池塘生態非常豐富，除了提供野生生物棲息外並提供親子休閒遊憩場所及自然生態教學區。園區並設有烤肉區、露營區、泡茶區等，適合全家到此一遊。
在澄清湖想要觀看湖區全景就必要登上中興塔，該塔是澄清湖中最高的建築，塔身高約43公尺，共有7層樓。寶塔內有迴旋梯直上塔頂，遠觀後方綠草如茵的高爾夫球場令人心曠神怡。澄清湖無論是曲橋、湖泊、亭樓；或是盛名的三亭(有如、清如、淡如亭)，得月樓，正氣亭，各式古樸典雅的建築亭樓都是遐邇聞名。

Introduction 簡介
If you want to enjoy the primitive and natural beauty of this island, to experience the colorful wonders of its mountain scenery, the Southern Cross-Island Highway is your best choice. Since it is far from any population centers, and the public transportation system has not been fully developed, it becomes the least frequented of the island's three major east-west highways. But, to speak from the other side, this also helps to preserve its unspoiled loveliness of nature. It took over four years to construct the highway, which included 61 bridges and 10 tunnels, and the whole project was completed at 1972. During that time, more than 100 brave workers sacrificed their lives so this mountain road could be accomplished. The Southern Cross-Island Highway starts from Peiliao (北寮村) village in Tainan county, then passes over the Central Mountain Range and ends at Tehkao (德高村) village in Taitung county. It is divided into two sections: the western section, from Yuching ( 玉井 ) to Tianchi ( 天池 ), and the eastern section, from Tianchi ( 天池 ) to Haiduan ( 海端 ), which are labeled altogether as No. 20 Provincial Highway on the map. The scenery of the two sections is quite different. The western section is famous for hot springs, stiff valleys and original forests, while the eastern section, cliffs waterfalls and sea of clouds.
西起台南市省道台19號路口，東訖至東縣海端鄉海端村與台9號省道交叉，全長212公里，全線闢建完成於民國六十一年，由於完工後，路基不穩，落石坍坊不斷，一直到八十一年全線舖設柏油，八十二年全線開放管制，並在玉山國家公園積極建設梅山遊憩區，天池步道系統及沿線景觀據點等遊憩設施相繼完成后，遊客逐漸增加，目前已成為新興熱門遊憩路線。南部橫貫公路自台20號109公里梅山口至146公里埡口段，屬於玉山國家公園範圍內，海拔由1014公尺一直上升至埡口大關山隧道海拔2700公尺，沿線具有中、高海拔豐富多樣的森林植被及高山地形景觀。

Scenic Spots風景據點
From Meishan 110k to Yakou 146K of Tai. 20 Highway of Southern Cross-Island Highway is in the range of Yushan National Park. The altitude rises from 1,014 meters to 2,700 meters at Yakou Daguanshan Tunnel. There is a variety of forest vegetations and landscapes of mid, high altitude.
Jhongjhihguan Old Trail is 3.5kilometers in length and lies from Meishan to Yakou in the southwestern Yushan National Park. It is the upper section from 130.5K to 136K of Southern Cross-Island Highway (Tai. 20 Highway). The construction of the road has minor impact of the trail, so the tails is a better-maintained section of the Guangshan System.
Jhongjhiguan Trail
Jhongjhiguan to Tianchih Trail is located in the warm temperate forest between 1800 and 2400 meters of altitude. The changes of seasons are distinct. When you walk through the trail, all you can see is dense, green old trees. The needle-leaved trees are mainly cedar, Chinese hemlock, and spruce. The broadleaf trees are mainly Theaceae, Lauraceae, and Fagaceae. Near Tianchih, dwarf bamboo dominates the area after the fire. Along the trail are Charcoal Kiln, retaining walls, Wushe cherry trees, police stations that left behind from the Japanese Occupation Era. All of these remains have great value in humanities research. It is quite relaxing to walk through the trail and is most suitable for recreation activity.
Jhongjhiguan Rest Area
It’s located at 130.5K of Southern Cross-Island Highway. It has a parking lot, public toilet facility, chairs, and dining tables. It is an important rest point of the highway. It is also the entrance to Jhongjhiguan-Tianchih Trail.
Jhongjhiguan Police Station
It was the police station during the Japanese Occupation Era. It was established to monitor the Yushueishe of Bunun tribe. There is a explanation booth and several explanation signs. There are also benches for visitors to use.
Charcoal Kiln
It is on a roadside about 3 kilometers away from Tianchih. The kiln was used for heating or hotting water during the Japanese Occupation Era. There is an explanation board behind the kiln.
White Wood
It is at the top of the trail, above Tianchih. It is the division mark of forest and grass slope of the trail. The White Wood was caused by the fire. There is an explanation board beside it and the view is spectacular. View into the north is Yushan Peaks and Yun Peak. Visitors can enjoy the Guangshan Ridge in the east.
Tianchih
It is an important recreation area on the Southern Cross-Island Highway. It is located at 2290 meters above the sea level. Tianchih is a highland lake, and the main lake’s shape is like a heart. Besides a forest in the northeastern side, the rest is occupied by dwarf bamboo. There are also two comparatively small lakes, which only become obvious during the rain season. The edge of the lake has plants like Thwaites, mat-rush, and Hayata.
Changching Shrine
It is located at 135.5K of Southern Cross-Island Highway, above Tianchih. It is a building resembling a temple, and it’s the enshrinement to the spirits of martyr workers during the excavation of the highway. The entrance to the trail is behind the shrine.

中之關步道位於台20號130.5公里，日治時代曾在此建有中之關駐在所，為當時關山越嶺警備道西段上極重要的一站。另外玉山國家公園在公路旁建築公廁、停車場、解說牌示，並整修中之關－天池關山越嶺古道，提供遊客休憩、賞景及古道健行之旅。中之關至天池段長約3公里，古道遺跡保存完整，經整修已完成古道入口、步棧道、中之關駐在所及沿線解說牌示之設施；徜足其間，在享受自然、眺望景觀之餘，尚可緬懷於思古幽情之情境中。中之關步道位於高雄縣桃源鄉、南橫公路130K到135K上方，沿途景緻優美，生態豐富，一向是健行旅遊的熱門古道。

中之關步道全長約3.5公里，單程約1.5小時，屬於關山越嶺古道之一段，海拔高度自中之關步道入口處之1930公尺上升至步道另一端天池為2350公尺，古道融合了歷史與人文景觀，同時還可欣賞「天池」高山湖泊景緻，相當優美。

寶來、高中、桃源、勤和、復興、梅山－－南橫公路西段沿著荖濃溪谷而上，沿線經過寶來、高中、桃源、勤和、復興、梅山等以溫泉聞名的山村，其溫泉水質清澈，可飲可浴，遊客可至村中的溫泉山莊，享受一番舒適的溫泉浴。

天池、檜谷－－天池位於高雄縣南橫公路東西段交接點，約在20號省道135公里處。長青祠位於天池附近，為紀念當年開闢公路殉職的榮民及工程人員而建，是一座白牆紅瓦的古式建築，供奉開鑿南橫公路而殉難的員工神位，其展望玉山南峰及中央山脈南段，景觀頗佳。沿長青祠左側小徑步行約10分鐘，即來到海拔約2200公尺的天池，池邊綠意盎然、湖水終年不涸，自箭竹草坡向下望，恰似一面明鏡，將翠綠的山林景色映入其中，是南部地區極富盛名的高山湖泊。

檜谷位於高雄縣，約在台20號省道141公里處，距離天池、長青祠 6公里（約在20號省道公里附近），成群的巨大檜木林立眼前，此即〞檜谷〞，是南橫公路上原始森林景觀最浩大的地方，海拔標高約2454公尺，林間常是雲霧繚繞，更添一份悠然詩意。由天池到檜谷這一段 3公里的路程，為南橫健行精華路段之一。如欲住宿，可聯絡林務局天池員工宿舍，TEL：07-6780006。

大關山隧道、啞口－－大關山隧道穿越中央山脈主脊，長達600餘公尺，海拔2700多公尺，為南橫公路之最高點，也是高雄、台東兩縣分界，約在20號省道147公里處。關山雲海久富盛名，隧道東邊的埡口山莊則是遠望關山大斷崖的最佳地點。

向陽－－向陽雲海是南橫公路上的著名奇景。這片雲海，自中央山脈關山連峰東側，至花東縱谷的峽谷山稜。每當天氣好時，整個山區會瀰漫著雲霧，使崇山峻嶺和高聳的老樹，若隱若現，景緻撲朔而迷人。

利稻－－稻是南橫公路東段的一個布農族聚落（約在20號省道 176公里附近），村莊座落在群山環繞的河階台地上，居民多以種植茶及高冷蔬菜維生，由公路上望去，但見紅瓦屋舍排列有序、田野青翠，晨間雲霧裊繞，向晚彩霞斑斕，高山聚落田園景緻之美，如世外桃源。

霧鹿、天龍吊橋－－南橫公路利稻到霧鹿間(霧鹿約在20號省道 185公里處)，新武呂溪切割造成約9公里的霧鹿峽谷，可說是南橫全線最精采之處。霧鹿峽谷係指海端鄉霧鹿到利稻之間9公里長的「新武呂溪峽谷」,整個峽谷呈「S」型,起點是利稻,中間點是利稻橋,終端則是天龍橋。而峽谷形成的原因,乃是源於關山的高山溪流不斷侵蝕關山連峰於此形成的大斷崖所至。峽谷兩岸斷岩如削、千仞岩壁挺立,且兩壁間的縫隙,流水潺潺。至於公路就沿壁盤旋而上,一路行來,定令您嘆為觀止。
凡是來到霧鹿的訪客，都不會錯過連接古道的天龍吊橋，全長約100公尺，橋面高懸在溪谷之上80餘公尺，佇足臨空、迎風搖曳，壯著膽子走過這花東最長鐵索橋，才能以一個謙卑的心情，伏俯在宇宙萬物之中。新武路峽位於公路的東端，新武呂溪與大崙溪的匯流處為其起點，赭褐色的岩石裸露，頗有太魯閣峽谷之風。

I. INTRODUCTION 簡 介
Taiwan's best known mountain resort, famous for its magnificent sunrises, is Alishan(阿里山), located at 2,190 meters (7,185 feet) in altitude due east of the central town of Chiayi(嘉義).A historical narrow-gauge diesel train shuttles visitors from the plains up to the peak. The railway traverses the tropical, subtropical and temperate zones, and stretches to the Frigid Zone in the logging areas beyond Alishan village. Alishan is very popular with local tourists, foreign residents and the international tourists not to mention honeymooners. The trip up is extremely sought-after in the spring for those who wish to see the wild cherry and plum blossoms and in the summer months to escape the heat of the lowlands. Rains occur on and off from May to September. Dry season is October to April. This resort's single outstanding attraction is a view of the sunrise from the nearby Chushan (Chu Mountain祝山). A very dramatic panorama of the mountains across the valley just before, during and after sunrise is a sight one doesn't see often. If you see the sunrise, consider yourself rather lucky because the clouds are frequently so thick that nothing is visible. There are well-paved paths through the forest of trees to the Alishan sightseeing spots such as the Giant or Sacred or Spirit Tree(神木) that you see from the train, to a deer park, a sisters' pond, various tree formations and a small but interesting local museum featuring the flora and fauna of the area.

阿里山地屬嘉義縣阿里山鄉,在嘉義市東邊72公里。阿里山一向以五奇著稱,所謂五奇,即登山鐵路、森林、雲海、日出及晚霞。從竹崎開始,就進入阿里山的秀色中。阿里山鐵路全長72公里,鐵道旁可看到熱帶、暖帶、溫帶等三種不同的林相。阿里山最著名的景觀不外乎姊妹潭、神木、日出及雲海。在此介紹一行程建議以玆參考。若光就阿里山風景區內的據點而言,步程約需3.5小時,因此可以一天來回阿里山,但卻會錯過阿里山最美的清晨與黃昏,所以還是安排2天1夜以上較適合。第一天搭車抵阿里山後,先瀏覽風景區的每個據點,黃昏時選個好地點看落日,雲海.第二天一早前往祝山看日出,下來後再到各處逛一逛,然後賦歸.

INTRODUCTION 簡介
This teaching and learning center of Buddhist in South Taiwan is but an hour’s drive from Kaohsiung city. It is located on a low hill surrounded by colorful coconut and banana plantations.
The largest and principal temple of worship is the Dahsiung Baodien or Sacred Palace of Great Heroes(大雄寶殿)wherein three large 120-meter(400-feet) bronze likenesses of Buddha, sit in contemplative splendor in a spacious, rectangular shrine almost empty except for a large gong and drum in the corners.
If you turn to the right when you leave this shrine, the signs point and lead you to the Dabeidien or Temple of Great Compassion(大悲殿) where a large, standing white-colored Goddess of Mercy(觀世音菩薩) pours dew from a flask in her right band, a gesture meaning bestoying or giving. Her left hand is raised with fingers extended upward grasping a few willow twigs signifying assurance from fear.
Not far away is the gold-colored Buddha which is the tallest standing one on Taiwan. It’s 32 meters or 105.6 feet in elevation including the base. It was dedicated in Nov,, 1975.

佛光山位於高雄縣大樹鄉的東北區，高屏溪流經其東側。

民國五十六年，星雲法師為提倡〝生活佛教〞，〝人間佛教〞，遂帶領其弟子和工人建設此佛教聖地。二十多年來，佛光山的事業蒸蒸日上，不論教育、文化、慈善或觀光事業，都辦得有聲有色，而且在台北、宜蘭、嘉義、彰化、台南、高雄、澎湖都有分院，甚至在美國也創辦了一個道場。

大雄寶殿、大悲殿、大智殿、大願殿是佛光山四個主要的寺廟建築，大雄寶殿佔地1080坪，是供奉佛像的殿堂。〝雄〞取其勇猛精進之意，殿中供奉三尊佛，中央是娑婆世界教主釋迦牟尼佛，左邊是東方琉璃世界教主藥師佛，右邊是西方極樂世界教主阿彌陀佛，大殿的四面牆壁中有14600個小洞，每個洞中供奉一尊小佛像，洞的上方分別裝上小燈，下方則是寫著認捐信徒的名字，稱為〝光明燈〞。

〝東山日出〞，〝西嶺晚霞〞是佛光山最佳的天然景色。

佛光山最熱鬧的時刻是每年春節到元宵節這段時間，每逢此時，佛光山到處掛滿花燈。另外，每年四月八日釋迦牟尼佛誕辰紀念日(又稱浴佛節)均有浴佛法會。

【關子嶺遊憩系統Guanzihling Recreational System】
轄區內重要觀光據點為關子嶺風景區、白河水庫、鹿寮水庫、水火同源、大仙寺、六重溪溫泉、永安高爾夫球場、仙湖休閒農場等。關仔嶺水火同源及特有的泥漿溫泉，白河荷園，小舟滿載蓮花輕唱採蓮謠，東山登山健行與生態觀光，溫泉養生、水庫休憩與蓮花產業體驗的勝地。
The major tourist spots in the Guanzihling Recreational System area include Guanzihling, Baihe Reservoir, Luliao Reservoir, the Water and Fire Cave, Dasian Temple, Liouchongsi Hot Springs, Yongan Golf Country Club, and Sianhu Leisure Farm. At Guanzihling, one can see the Water and Fire Cave and experience the unique mud springs. At the Baihe lotus farms, one can see small boats full of lotus flowers, and listen to softly sung lotus picking ballades. Dongshan provides mountain climbing, hiking and ecotourism. This is a great place to experience the healthy hot springs, reservoir recreational activities, and lotus industry.
1. 關子嶺腹地廣大，夾處於丘陵和群山之間，四周盡是綠意盎然的景緻，發源自內灣的白水溪匯入溫泉谷，在地熱的作用下溫度攀升。成就出關子嶺特有的溫泉資源。關子嶺溫泉與北投、陽明山、四重溪溫泉，並列台灣4大溫泉區，溫泉泉質相當特殊，為全台灣唯一的「泥質溫泉」，屬鹼性碳酸溫泉，泉水濃濁含有硫磺成分，具滑膩感，溫度約略在75度之間，泉水可浴不可飲，浸泡後全身舒暢，對於皮膚過敏、消除疲勞、腸胃病及風濕關節炎等疾病具有療效，堪稱為渾然天成的養生泉。水火同源又名「水火洞」，名列台灣七景之一和台南縣八景之一，被視為台南縣的觀光櫥窗，聞名遐邇。水火同源位於碧雲寺東南方公里處，依自然定律而言，水火本不相容，然而，此地地質構造特殊，崖壁間有天然氣冒出，經點然後火焰永不熄滅，而崖壁縫隙中同時又有泉水湧出，形成「水中有火，火中有水」的水火同源特殊天然景觀。據聞此景有一神話傳說，於遠古時代，火龍與水虎因意見不合起爭執，搏鬥一爭勝負，卻導致兩敗俱傷，最後「火龍化為火，水虎化為泉」，而成為今日水火同源異象。
2. Baihe Reservoir is located on the east side of Baihe Township, and faces both the northern and southern parts of the Guanzihling Scenic Area. It is on the same tourist route as Guanzihling, and most tourists will visit both these places on the same journey. The reservoir was built in 1965, and provides irrigation, flood prevention, water related industries, natural water supply and tourism. It also provides a spectacular flood discharging scene. It is truly a multi-purpose reservoir. The reservoir lake spans 170 hectares, and there are two small islands in the middle, of a height of below 160 meters. Depending on the raising and lowering of the water levels, the small islands are not always visible. When the water level is low, a boat can be rowed to the islands. Looking into the distance, one can see many blue waves. On the left side of the lake is a small hill with a flat terrain, densely shaded, and suitable for picnics, camping and other recreational activities. Nearby are a flower nursery, car park and shady woods, suitable for hiking and taking in the cool air.
交通Transportation
◎嘉義的嘉義客運、新營的新營客運，均有直達關子嶺的般車，平均 30~60分一班。
The Chiayi Transport Company, and the Sinying Transport Company both provide direct buses to Guanzihling from Chiayi and Sinying respectively. The journey takes from 30 to 60 minutes.
◎在白河或新營搭新營客運往南寮的班車，可分別在大仙寺、碧雲寺及水火同源等下車。
At Baihe or Sinying, take the Sinying Transport Company's Nanliao Bus. This bus will take you to Dasian Temple, Biyun Temple and the Water and Fire Cave.
◎自新營、白河鎮搭新營客運或嘉義客運往關子嶺，在白河水庫站下車。
From Sinying and Baihe, take the Sinying or Chiayi Transport Company bus going to Guanzihling, and alight at the Baihe Reservoir Bus Stop.

【烏山頭遊憩系統Wushantou Recreational System】
烏山頭水庫附近六甲及官田一帶，重要觀光據點為尖山埤水庫、烏山頭水庫、台南藝術大學、天壇等，自然景緻優美，具豐富的文史淵源，菱角產業、灰黑陶藝術，是懷舊溯往、藝術薰陶深度旅遊之觀光聖地，及高球運動渡假區。
Major tourist spots in the Lioujia and Guantian areas, which are adjacent to Wushantou Reservoir, include Jianshanpi Reservoir, Wushantou Reservoir, Tainan National University of the Arts, and Tiantan. This system offers picturesque natural scenery, plentiful cultural and historical attractions, the water chestnut industry, and black pottery art. It is also an excellent destination for golfing.
1. 尖山埤水庫風景區佔地21公頃的尖山埤水庫，原是台糖公司新營糖廠的工業水源蓄水庫，水庫量可達300萬立方公尺，目前尖山埤水庫淤積情況日漸嚴重，但由於水庫並不供應灌溉用水，因此台糖公司並未有任何疏浚計畫，經過轉型經營，已成為風景遊樂區，逢週休二日總會吸引不少遊客前往。
The Jianshanpi Reservoir, though small, is exquisite in design. The dining facilities and accommodation are built right next to the reservoir and command a panoramic view of the lake. It is very relaxing and enjoyable place to fish, take a stroll, or go on a sightseeing boat tour. This area also has dairy farms. This is an ideal location for developing dairy farming and lakeside vacation activities.
2. 烏山頭水庫位於六甲鄉與官田鄉交界處，由空中鳥瞰，可見水域蜿蜒曲折，形似珊瑚外觀，故有「珊瑚潭」之美譽。珊瑚潭由30多條的支流匯和而成，蓄水面積近1300公頃，潭中浮著近百座小島與半島，周遭山林面積更廣達4700多公頃，景緻秀麗迷人。烏山頭水庫為嘉南平原灌溉了15萬餘公頃的土地，也帶動的台南縣的觀光旅遊，今日的烏山頭水庫與曾文溪上游的曾文水庫相為串連，透過「水力落差」發電，共同支應大台南地區的民生與工業用水。
Wushantou Reservoir is also named Coral Lake. It’s at the border of Guantian and Liu Chia. The lake is formed with the convergence of over 30 rivers. A reservoir was built here in 1920, which was the largest reservoir construction at that time. There are over 100 isles on the lake. The designer of the reservoir was a Japanese, who was sent to Southeast Asia by the army. After World War II, his wife drowned herself in the reservoir. There is a statue of the Japanese engineer by the reservoir. The reservoir has a special structure and the water flowing out of the reservoir forms a beautiful waterfall. On the left of the waterfall is Kuo Min Hotel, in back of which is a camping site. Beside the lake is Chung Cheng Park, which is on top of a hill. The park overlooks the lake and the mountains beyond. Nearby the lake is temple worshipping Goddess of Mercy and Sakyamuni Buddha.

本系統以區新化鎮為旅遊服務基地，重要觀光據點為虎頭埤水庫、九層嶺花園遊樂區、大坑休閒農場、走馬瀨農場、平埔公廨等，擁有豐富的平埔文化、鄉村生態與古厝資源。虎頭埤水庫湖水平靜，波光粼粼，夾岸花木扶疏，蓊盛翠綠，恬靜自適，是晨昏運動、怡情靜心的「養生之庫」。
This system is based in and around the town of Sinhua and its major tourist spots include Hutoupi, Jioucengling Garden Recreation Area, Dakeng Leisure Farm, Zoumalai Farm, and Pingpu aboriginal ceremonial sites. This area boasts great resources, such as a rich Pingpu aboriginal culture, rural ecology and historic houses.
The Hutoupi Reservoir lake is peaceful and shimmering with waves. The lakeside is lush with flowers and trees, offering a pleasant place for exercising and bringing a feeling of inner peace.
1. 虎頭埤水庫有台灣第1水庫之稱，建造於西元1846年，水域面積約為27公頃，背山面水，沿岸最高處約有70m，埤面水最深處約有40m，最初用途為灌溉用水庫，供應給500多公頃的農地灌溉用之水源，於西元1906年遭地震後經半年搶修並立碑紀念，同年即列為台灣12勝景之一。西元1939年改列為虎頭埤風景區；於西元1954年由台南縣文獻委員會評選為「虎埤泛月」，是南瀛八大景之一，並有小日月潭的美稱。虎頭埤風景區因為於北回歸線以南，係屬副熱帶季風型氣候，園區內動植物生態相當豐富，鄰近尚有高爾夫球場、觀光草莓園、忠烈祠、騎馬場等遊樂區，亦可順道一遊，秀麗的風光不僅值得您仔細玩賞，更是週休二日度假的最佳選擇。風景區內有8大美景：虎溪釣月、虎嶼歸雲、虎頭倒影、閘口飛泉、江亭坐月、濠上觀魚、水橋虹影、孤嶼螺痕等，各具不同美感與情趣。先總統　蔣公也曾對此地頗為喜愛，使虎頭埤贏得了「小日月潭」的美譽。湖畔四周規劃多項休閒設施，分佈在四公里長的環湖道路旁。主要遊樂設施有：划船碼頭、雙水亭、高爾夫球場、游泳池、跑馬場、露營區、烤肉區、青年活動中心、忠烈祠等。新興的設施有親水遊憩區（親水公園及青少年體能場等）。區內循長達四公里的環湖路程中，有涼亭、餐廳座落於林蔭間可供遊客休憩及提供餐飲服務，另吊橋聯繫湖中小島虎月亭，風光明媚，水色瀲灩，長橋虹影，是台南都會休閒渡假的好選擇。
Hutoupi Reservoir, Taiwan's oldest reservoir, was built in 1846. The water surface area covers around 27 hectares. There are mountains in the background. The water banks reach a height of around 70 meters, and the waters go to a depth of around 40 meters. The reservoir was originally used for irrigation, irrigating over 500 hectares of farm land. In 1906, following an earthquake, it needed urgent repairs, which took six months. A memorial stone was erected at that time. In that same year, it became one of Taiwan's "12 Scenic Panoramas". In 1939, it became known as the Hutoupi Scenic Area. In 1954, Tainan County’s Documents Committee selected “Moonlight on Hutoupi” to be one of the “Eight Nanying Sights”. 2. 走馬瀨農場位於台南縣大內鄉，為台南縣農會所經營產業系統之一環,正當曾文水庫、烏山頭水庫、南橫公路及虎頭埤四大風景區之中心點。民國７７年２月開放供國民旅遊，以其自然景觀及農業觀光之獨特內涵一躍為廣受歡迎之度假勝地。〞走馬瀨〞一詞為平埔族語，其姓名考來源有三種傳說：a.地理說：走馬瀨是一塊四面環山的台地，因曾文溪流經此，造成地形上著名的”掘鑿曲流〞，加以溪流切割丘陵，青灰岩惡地形處處，溪水流經其上，自然造成滾滾水瀨，走勢有如奔馬。b.歷史說：荷蘭人據台期間，引進馬匹供民飼養，因管理不善，流落荒野，變成野馬，肆虐農作，荷蘭人因此命令圍捕，集中放飼於”頭社東方不遠一個天然隔絕之山谷”，據推測，此即為”走馬瀨”。c.民俗說：昔日為平埔族部落中心的走馬瀨，住有一位李姓富豪，女兒非常孝順，為了營救被平埔族擄去的父親，許諾下嫁馬頭人，其後子孫改為馬姓，而馬頭人也被後代奉祀為”馬公爺”，畫馬公像頂禮膜拜。不論走馬瀨農場一詞源自於何，其在經縣農會開發後，不僅將單純之農業生產提升為農業與旅遊的產業，更帶動了休閒農業之蓬勃發展，成功的轉型經營已為不爭之事實。
Zoumalai Farm was established for the production of grain, but has now become a tourist recreational area. It was among the first farms to officially have scenic recreation status. For the past 11 years, it has been recognized as a first class park area. It has the honor of being awarded the prize by the Farmers' Association of Taiwan for being a superior recreational farm. Zoumalai Farm, which has an area of 120 hectares, is operated by the Tainan County Farmers' Association. It was the first recreational farm theme park to be established in Taiwan. The farm is an amusement park that integrates grasslands, mountain forests, and rivers, and according to the findings of the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, it also has abundant natural ecological resources. There are over 150 wild animal species, including six kinds of protected bird species, three kinds of protected amphibious species, one protected mammal species and one protected insect species. This means that they have 11 species of animals that are covered under the Wildlife Conservation Act. The scenery changes seasonally, and the different ecology allows the forest to take on different appearances! The farm is divided into three main sections, namely the main recreational area, the orchard recreational area, and the pasture recreational area. This resort is well designed, and includes many facilities such as a management center, restaurants, farm-style living quarters, pastures, a child amusement area, a fitness center, a mini golf course, a race course, and a camping and barbeque area.

本系統以嘉義縣大埔鄉、台南縣楠西鄉、玉井鄉為旅遊服務基地，境內包含許多重要觀光據點，如曾文水庫、嘉義農場、鹿陶洋江家古厝、情人公園、梅嶺風景區等觀光景點。曾文水庫為台灣最大水庫，湖面寬廣、風光明媚，魚產豐富肥美，四季花果富撓，適合各種充滿活力熱情的水上活動，發展多元化的休閒觀光產業。
The Zengwen Recreational System is based on tourist services in Chiayi County's Dapu, Nansi, and Yujing Townships. It features many major tourist spots including: Zengwen Reservoir, Chiayi Farm, the Jiang Family Historic House, Cingren Park, and Meiling Scenic Area. Zengwen Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Taiwan. It has a vast reservoir lake, enchanting scenery, an abundance of fish products, and plentiful year-round flowers and fruits. It is ideal for holding various thrilling aquatic activities, and suited for developing a varied recreation and tourist industry.
1. 曾文水庫是台灣最大之水庫，台灣最大之人工湖、南台灣開發面積最大的風景區，興建於曾文溪上游，台南、嘉義縣之交界處，主要功能為調節及利用曾文溪水資源以改善嘉南地區之供水效能。曾文水庫集水區面積達481平方公里，比日月潭面積大三分之一左右；蓄水面積為17.1平方公里，由於集水區域廣闊，極目遠眺，碧綠萬頃，壯麗無比，因以「曾水煙波」被列為新南瀛十勝景觀之一。水庫有效蓄水量多達6億立方公尺，當滿庫洩洪之時，三門溢洪道全開，急流飛瀑，有如萬馬奔騰，令人觀止。湖面煙波浩瀚，山光水色，兼具雄壯與秀麗的景觀特色，置身其中，心境豁然開朗，是放鬆心情遊憩的好去處。擁有獨步南台灣的壯麗資源，風景區腹地廣闊，觀光發展條件優越，共規劃了10個活動遊憩區，包括有：管理行政區、溪畔遊樂區、木瓜園旅館區、大壩景觀區、湖濱別墅區等。
Zengwen Reservoir is the largest reservoir and the largest manmade lake in Taiwan. It is also the largest scenic area in southern Taiwan. It is situated in the upper reaches of the Zengwen River, on the borders of Tainan County and Chiayi County. Its main purpose is to regulate and utilize the water resources from the Zengwen River to improve the water productivity of the Jianan area. The mists and ripples of the lake, and the reflection of the mountain scenery on the lake, create a majestic and beautiful landscape. Standing by the lake, one can feel both relaxed and refreshed. With its magnificent resources, unmatched in southern Taiwan, this broad, extensive scenic area has great potential for tourism development. Ten recreational activity centers have been built, including an administrative center, a waterside amusement area, a papaya garden hotel area, a large dam landscape area, and lakeside villas.
曾文水庫特定區為配合觀光需求，已興建若干自然生態之遊憩服務設施，主要景點如下：
(1)東口野營遊憩區：
位於大壩下游3號橋曾文溪畔，可容納500人使用，設有管理服務中心、活動中心、露營區、烤肉區、遊戲區、林間木屋等。
(2)曾文之眼服務中心：
為一玻璃帷幕建物、造型奇特別具巧思，為水庫新地標，其內並提供觸控式導覽系統、餐飲販賣部、藝文展示廳及多媒體簡報室等。
(3)大壩景觀：
曾文水庫為台灣最大水庫，供給大嘉南地區用水，兼具灌溉、觀光、民生用水等功能，水庫大壩位於大埔鄉內，周邊著名景點有：親水公園、鳥宮花園、露營場、青年活動中心、大壩溢洪道及紀念碑等。
(4)五號橋鳥宮花園：
曾文水庫特定區內之野生鳥類、花卉、樹木與相關動物生態之收集展示。
(5)岸邊釣魚區：已公告風吹嶺、水上遊樂區、嘉義農場及大埔情人公園等四處。
(6)遊艇（碼頭）：水庫管理機關已許可嘉義縣大埔鄉公所使用曾文水庫辦理公共造產「水庫遊艇事業委託經營」。
2. 嘉義農場濱臨曾文水庫，紅瓦白牆的西班牙式建築，是曾文水庫鄰近最特殊的景點，農場內花木扶疏、綠草如茵，編織出歐式風情。農場內所種植的農產品及高經濟價值作物，才是這裡的主角，如澳洲胡桃、小核荔枝、泰國龍眼、芒果、柳丁等物產十分豐富，呈現多樣的田園風貌。中藥植物園則是這裡的一大特色，分為野生草藥區和中藥標本區，種有枸杞、川七、蘆薈等60多種藥用植物，供遊客賞玩、認識，以達到遇教於樂的目的。駐足湖畔， 瀏覽青山綠水、如畫美景，或與三五好友垂釣，看著天光雲影徘徊，水上煙波縹緲，為國人週休二日的好選擇。
Chiayi Farm, adjoining the shores of Zengwen Reservoir, is made up of Spanish style buildings, with red tiles and white-washed walls. The ornamental flowers and trees on the farm are luxuriant and well-spaced; the green grass is like a blanket, weaving a European style atmosphere. Major features of the farm are the produce and highly economical crops grown there. These abundant crops include Australian walnuts, small litchis, Thai longans, mangos, and oranges. The cultivation of these crops results in a varied scenery. It specializes in growing Chinese medicinal herbs. They are divided into two sections, the wild herbal medicine area and the Chinese medicine specimen area. Over 60 kinds of medicinal herbs are grown here, including Lycium chinensis, chuan ci, and aloes. The guests can enjoy these herbs, and also learn more about them. At the lakeside accommodations, one can view the green mountains and fresh water that have the appearance of a landscape art work, enjoy fishing with friends, watch the clouds moving slowly in the sky, or watch the mist covered waters. These features are the reason why the people of Taiwan love to come here on the weekend.
3. 梅嶺位於楠西鄉灣丘村，舊稱「香蕉山」，後來香蕉沒落為梅樹所取代。經來訪之， 前副總統謝東閔先生見到滿山綻放的梅花，遂改名為「梅嶺」。為台灣最大的梅樹栽培區之一，每年元旦至1月中旬，是梅嶺梅樹開花期，屆時滿山花海，花香四溢，是梅嶺的旅遊旺季。賞梅之餘，拜訪梅嶺也別忘記品嚐遠近馳名的「梅子雞」，以醃製梅子熬煮土雞的料理，為當地的特色餐餚。
Meiling Scenic Area is located in Nansi Township's Wanciou Village. In previous times, it was called Siangjiao Mountain (Banana Mountain), but over time, the banana trees were replaced by plum trees. When the former vice president Sie Dongmin visited this place, he saw that the whole mountain was bursting with plum blossoms, and changed the name to Meiling (plum peak). This is one of Taiwan's largest plum-growing areas. The plum trees blossom every year from New Year's Day until mid January. At this time, the mountain is covered with fragrant plum blossoms. This is Meiling's peak time for tourism. As you admire the abundant blossoms, don’t miss out on the local dish – boiled chicken with salted plums.
4. 跳跳休閒農場栽培各式蔬果，成片麻竹與罕見巨竹林為其特色景觀，農場內豐富多樣的農產與生態資源，促使跳跳休閒農場充滿許多鄉土的驚喜，園區內規劃與四季蔬果盛產結合，推出不同的鄉土活動，例如「麻竹筍」盛產時節（7月~11月），農莊會安排挖竹筍活動，供應最新鮮的麻竹筍大餐。
Tiaotiao Recreation Farm produces a variety of fruits and vegetables. The ma-bamboo (Dendrocalamus latiflorus) and rare giant-bamboo (Gigantochloa) contribute to this landscape. Due to the farm’s abundant and varied crops, as well as its ecological resources, Tiaotiao Recreation Farm is full of local delights. The farm is planned according to the integration of seasonal fruit and vegetable products. It promotes many different local activities, such as “ma-bamboo sprouts” season, (July to November), which includes a bamboo sprouts digging activity, resulting in the freshest of ma-bamboo sprouts dishes.

【左鎮遊憩系統Zuojhen Recreational System】
本系統以區內左鎮為旅遊服務基地，左鎮鄉因白堊土形成青灰岩地貌，獨特景觀特別多，不過最讓流連忘返的莫過於菜寮溪化石與當地平埔族文化，因在這裡，讓人發現了一塊台灣年代最久的「左鎮人」頭骨化石，且當地有百分之八十之居民具有平埔族血統的背景，又使這個小鄉成為尋找平埔族文化遺跡之地。區內寺廟林立，並擁珍貴之青灰岩地形與泥火山岩漿等地形地質、人文遺址及動物生態等資源，是生態教育、溫泉渡假、地質觀察及宗教參訪觀光區。
Tourism in this system is based in Zuojhen. Zoujhen Township's chalky soil creates a mudstone terrain, resulting in many unique landscapes. The tourists will find the Cailiao Creek fossils and local Pingpu Aboriginal culture enthralling. A fossil of the skull of "Zuojhen Man" has been found in this area. 80% of the people living here can claim Pingpu ancestry. This has resulted in people visiting the local towns and villages in order to seek vestiges of the Pingpu culture. There are also many temples and shrines in this area, as well as rich ecological resources such as the slate-grey mudstone terrain and magma from mud volcanoes. Historic ruins and local wildlife make this tourist area suitable for learning about the local ecology, geology and religion. Visitors can also enjoy the local hot springs.

Tainan anciently referred to as "Chih Kan" is the former capital of Taiwan. Presently it has a population of more than 750,000 and covers an area of 176 square kilometers. Being located at the fertile Chia Nan Plain, convenient access both in land and water transportation. Tainan was developed earlier than other areas in Taiwan by earlier settlers, and a political, economic and cultural center of Taiwan in early days. Tainan is especially noted for its many historic relics, and amicable inhabitants. It has gained a fame of "Old Capital of Culture" for a long time.
臺南市古稱「赤崁」，係臺灣本島之發祥地。目前人口七十五萬多人，占地約一七六平方公里，並劃分為東、西、南、北、中、安南、安平等七個行政區。因位於嘉南平原，開發較早，交通便利； 早期為臺灣地區政治、經濟、文化中心，前賢古人遺留之名勝古蹟特多，民眾質樸可親故至今仍有「文化古都」之美名。

Yi Tzai Golden Castle was called "An Pin Great Fort" or "Twice Fish Length Fort" in the ancient time, it was built to resist the Japanese troops who invaded Taiwan due to Peony Suffix Event. When Shern Bao-Tzen first arriving in An Pin in 1874, he believed that Great Forts should be built to protect the city, therefore, the first western style fort was finally completed in 1876, which was designed by French engineers, it was the first port equipped with British Armstrong Cannon in Taiwan, moreover, it was a great step toward modernization of Taiwanese coastguard military defense.
億載金城古稱為「安平大砲台」或「二鯤鯓砲台」是了對抗因牡丹社事件而犯台的日本軍隊。西元1874年沈葆楨先抵安平，認為應建立大砲台以保衛府城，因此，西元1876年由法國工程師所設計完成的全台第一座西式砲台終於完成，也是全台第一座配備英國阿姆斯壯大砲的砲台，台灣的海防軍事也因此而邁向近代化的一大步。

In 1624, Dutch built the first fort in An Ping, Taiwan, called "Fort Zeelandia", now known as Anping Fort, where has been the administrative center of the Dutch regime, and the hub for trading. The building was originally constructed in square inner fortress and rectangle outer walls. In 1661, the fort was renamed as An Ping to commemorate his home town when Koxinya (Cheng Cheng-Kung) has driven the Dutch out of Taiwan. Therefore, Fort Zeelandia was also known as "King's Fort" or "Taiwan Fort", nicknamed Anping Fort.
荷蘭人於西元1624年，在安平建造了台灣第一座城堡「熱蘭遮城」，也就是現在的安平古堡，這裡曾是荷蘭人統治的中樞，更是對外貿易的總樞紐，原本的建築格局分為方形內城與長方形外城。西元1661年，鄭成功驅離荷蘭人後，將此地改名為安平，故熱蘭遮城也稱為「王城」或「臺灣城」，俗稱安平古堡，是台灣最早的一座城池。

This temple, along with the Confucius Temple, is known as one of the oldest and best-preserved temples in Taiwan. Just when it was originally built is not known, but according to legend it was during the Ming dynasty's Yungli reign, in the mid-17th century. During the Ching dynasty, this was where government officials offered sacrifices to the god.
The God of War (Kuan Ti or Kuan Kung) worshipped here holds a heavy sword and rides a swift horse. His mortal origin was as a general of the late Han dynasty (early 3rd century) who, because of his behavior, become a symbol of uprightness and loyalty to later generations and was finally deified. He is said to have been good at managing finances and to have invented a method of accounting, and so is also worshipped (by businessmen, especially) as the God of Commerce.
祀典武廟又稱關帝廟，建於明鄭時期，相傳為原為寧靖王府內之關帝廟，為台灣武聖關帝之信仰中心，也是唯一列入官方祀典的武廟，廟分三進：前殿、拜殿、正殿及後殿，以長達66公尺的朱紅山牆迤邐連接，彰顯恢宏氣勢。

It is the tomb of the five concubines who voluntarily died with Chu, Shu-guei, King of Ningjing in the Ming Dynasty. These five concubines were Ms Yuan, Ms Wang, Siugu, Meijie and Hojie. In June 1683, when Jheng, Ke-shuang surrendered to the Ching troop which defeated the Ming troop in Penghu, the King of Ningjing wanted to die for his country.
位於舊名桂子山(也叫魁斗山)的五妃廟，是明寧靖王朱術桂從死姬妾:袁氏、王氏、秀姑、梅姐、荷姐等五人的墓塋與墓廟，就大義從死壯烈犧牲的意義看，它的範圍包括了兩位侍宦殉死的埋骨處:義靈君祠。

The Confucius Temple in Tainan was built in 1666, it was the first Confucius Temple, before the end of Manchu Dynasty, it was the location of the highest official institute of higher learning in Taiwan. The Taiwan Palace of "Confucianism Study", it owned the incompatible position of culture and education, and was called "The Highest Institute".
孔子廟又稱文廟，建於明永曆年間，是全台最早的文廟，也是清末之前最高的官辦學府，故有「全台首學」之稱。這座孔廟是由鄭成功部將陳永華倡議修建，清及日據時代歷數次修建，現今主體則為民國66年整建而作。

Da Tian Hou Temple is commonly known as a Ma Chu Temple of Tainan- the first Ma Chu Temple built by the government in Taiwan. The god worshipped in Da Tian Hou Temple is The Heaven God Mother, or widely called Mother Ma Chu, the most worshipped god in the Taiwanese society. The Da Tian Hou Temple was originally the palace of Emperor Ning Jing of the Ming Dynasty. In the 22nd year of Emperor Kang Si (in 1684), after admiral Hsih Long had occupied Taiwan, he found that Ma Chu was mostly worshipped by the Taiwanese people and as a way to easy their hard feeling towards foreign rule, he then reported to the emperor and requested to have the Ning Jing Palace rebuilt into a Ma Chu Temple and promoted Ma Chu to Tian Hou, meaning the Heaven God Mother. Since then the Ma Chu temple is called Da Tian Hou Temple.
大天后宮，俗稱「台南大媽祖廟」，是台灣第一座官建媽祖廟。大天后宮供奉的主神，也就是俗稱的媽祖婆，是台灣民間的宗教信仰中最普遍的神明。大天后宮原為明寧靖王朱術桂的王府。清康熙22年（西元1683年）水師提督施琅攻佔台灣後，鑒於台灣人民對於媽袓信仰的虔誠，為收服民心，乃奏請清廷將寧靖王府邸改建為媽袓廟，並將媽祖晉封為天后，廟稱大天后宮。

Tainan Chih-Kan Lou is built by the Dutch in 1653. It was originally called Provintia. In Dutch it means eternity. The Chinese called the building "Chih-Kan Lou", "Fantselou" or "Honmaulou". Although Chih-Kan Lou has gone through Ming Dynasty, Ching Dynasty and the Japanese Colonization Period, it basically still maintains its original look.
赤崁樓乃荷蘭人於西元1653年創建，原稱普羅民遮城(Provintia荷文為永恆之意)，漢人則稱之為「赤崁樓」、「番仔樓」或「紅毛樓」；雖然「赤崁樓」已歷經明、清、日據時期，至今仍大約維持原貌。

In Chinese folk religion, the City God acts as a prosecutor in the district court of the underworld. In the world of the living, he keeps people in line through the threat of punishment in the afterlife. His temple features a giant abacus for the purpose of calculating the good and evil deeds of people when they are alive so that they can be subjected to a final reckoning after death. Since this temple is connected with the underworld, the local people tend to avoid entering it at night.
城隍相當於陰間地方法院的司法長，過去藉神道教化先民，以安定社會，譬如廟中的超大算盤係計算人生前的功過，有勸人棄惡揚善之意，由於城隍廟屬於「陰廟」，當地人的習慣是不在入夜後前往祭拜。

This narrow and winding street, the oldest one in Tainan--therefore in all Taiwan--and commonly known as "Taiwan Street" is rebuilt now. Nearby is a historic building named Haishan Hall, an interesting structure with an even more interesting collection of implements and charms designed to expel evil. The building today has been transformed into the Anping Local Culture Hall and is open to visitors free of charge.

Commonly referred to as Lord of Heaven (Tien Kung) Temple. The Altar of Heaven (Tian Tan) is dedicated to the supreme Taoist deity, the Jade Emperor. The Chinese people believe deeply in fatalism; so when they encounter troubles in their lives, they might go to the Altar of Heaven to ask the Jade Emperor for a change of destiny. This is accomplished by transferring one's ill fortune to a straw doll and substituting good fortune for it. The local people go to the temple on the first and 15th days of each lunar month to worship the god and pray for the well-being of their families, and solemn birthday celebrations are held for the Jade Emperor on the ninth day of the first lunar month.
俗稱「天公廟」，主祀總管天堂的玉皇大帝，由於華人多篤信宿命論，當人生遭遇波折時，就到天壇請天公指點迷津並要求改運，也就是將壞運氣丟給草紮的人，而重新換一身好運；當地人會在農曆每月的初一、十五前往祭拜，祈求全家平安，另外農曆正月九日有隆重的玉皇大帝誕辰祭典。

The main deities worshipped in Tungyu (Eastern Hades) Temple are Titsang Wang. or the King of the Underworld. along with the Ten Demon Rulers of Hades. and such subsidiary deities as Oxhead and Horseface.
東獄殿屬「陰廟」，主祀總管陰司地府的「地藏王菩薩及十殿閻羅」，另有牛頭、馬面等使者，在此，傳說可透過托夢或紅姨（靈媒）與逝去的親友溝通；另外，以紙糊成縮小比例的生活用品形狀，燒給已逝的親人，讓他們也能過與人間一樣富足的生活，充分表現華人慎終追遠的孝思。

The Koxinya's Shrine, located by Kai Shan Road surrounded by trees, is the only Fujianese style shrine in Taiwan. This is the shrine built in memory of the work and achievement of Cheng Cheng Kung, the pioneer of Taiwan.
延平郡王祠建於清同治年間，位於台南市開山路，奉祀台灣開山始祖鄭成功及其部將，為台灣的重要古蹟。佔地9400餘坪，庭園修築風格莊嚴典雅，是台灣少見的「福州式」廟宇建築。
古趣盎然，極具觀光價值。

This temple is dedicated to Chi Niang-ma. the Seven Maids. who are viewed as protectors of children; it is to this temple. therefore. that the young folk of Tainan come for their coming-of-age ceremony at 16. This ceremony is still practiced.
本廟供奉七娘媽（即七仙女），傳說她們為保佑孩童之神，台南特殊的做16歲成年禮民俗就在這裡於農曆七月初七（七夕）舉行，由於從16歲是領童工薪或成人薪的分界線，因此在困苦的開發時期特別重視16歲成年禮的舉行，沿襲至今成為民俗。
