Hualien 花蓮
Hualien County is approximately 4628 sq. km and has a population of about 350,000. It was called“chi-lai” in the ancient period. Owing to the Hualien River empties into the Pacific Ocean on the East Coast , where the surge and wave is turbulent, it is also called “huei-lan,” similar sound with Hualien. Hualien County, facing the immense Pacific Ocean in the east and leaning against the grand Central Mountain Range in the west, is famous for its beautiful scenery. The natural resources in Taroko National Park, East Coast National Scenic Area, East Rift Valley Scenic Area and Yushan National Park make Hualien the most beautiful county in Taiwan.
花蓮縣有4628平方公里人口約有35萬5000人。花蓮古稱奇萊，又因花蓮溪東注於海，其水與海濤激盪迂迴澎湃，而稱為洄瀾，後人諧其音稱為花蓮。花蓮瀕臨太平洋，西倚中央山脈，太魯閣國家公園、東部海岸國家風景區、花東縱谷國家風景區及玉山國家公園等自然景觀，造就花蓮聞名之山水美景。

◎Cingshui Cliffs：Cingshui Cliffs refers to the 12-kilometer route between Su-hau highway and Chung De which is a convoluted and winding highway and is also the most breath-taking route in the entire Su-hua highway. It is also among Taiwan’s 8 wonders. After passing Ho Ping tunnel, you will see this seemingly hovering highway adjacent to the mountain wall. Cingshui cliff is consisted of Gneiss and marbles which you may not feel fearful when driving on the highway and will be in utterly awe looking back after passing it.
清水斷崖：蘇花公路和仁至崇德之間，長約12公里的路段。此段公路蜿蜒曲折、臨崖逼岸，景觀驚險壯麗，是整個蘇花公路上最美的地方，被列為台灣八大奇景之一。過了和平隧道，就可看見這懸在半空中的道路，層層的懸崖和峭壁相連著。一路上，全都是片麻岩和大理岩，壯闊的景觀令人感到敬畏。
◎Taroko National Park： Taroko is famous for its spectacular mountains and marble canyons. Cliffs and canyons stretch along Li Wu River. After millions of years of wind erosion, the marble rocks were exposed and cut by Li Wu River, creating impressive grand canyons. The waterfalls characterized Taroko National Park and the most famous ones are Pai Yang Waterfall, Yin Tai Waterfall, Chang Chun Waterfall, and Lu Shui Waterfall. Yen Tze Kou and Chiu Chu Tung are the most impressive natural scenes in Taroko and the canyons here are the narrowest. Tourists can appreciate the natural beauty along the tour track. Swallows nest on the cliff, chirping and flying back forth. The Taroko monumental is designed in Chinese style and Chang Chun Temple is to remember those who sacrificed their lives for building the central highway.
太魯閣國家公園：太魯閣國家公園以雄偉壯麗、幾近垂直的大理岩峽谷景觀聞名。沿著立霧溪的峽谷風景線而行，觸目所及皆是壁立千仞的峭壁、斷崖、峽谷、連綿曲折的山洞隧道，大理岩層和溪流等風光。瀑布是太魯閣國家公園重要的景觀，從太魯閣口到文山間，瀑布相當多，最著名的要屬白楊瀑布、銀帶瀑布、長春瀑布、綠水瀑布等，還有許多不知名的小流瀑。燕子口和九曲洞，是太魯閣峽谷最讓人心動的自然奇觀，也是峽谷最窄的兩段，臨溪側闢有人行步道供遊客漫步欣賞。燕子口對岸大理石峭壁上可見到許多小洞穴，每當春夏之際，常有小雨燕和洋燕在峭壁間穿梭鳴唱，或在洞穴內築巢，故而得名燕子口。而九曲洞「如腸之迴、如河之曲」的隧洞景觀，遊客可沿迴轉曲折的半明半暗路線欣賞峽谷風光。
◎Liyu (Carp) Lake：Carp Lake is located in Shoufong Township, just south of Hualian. With an area of approximately 104 hectares, it is the largest lake in this region.The lake is encircled by a four-kilometer road that can be walked in about an hour. Popular activities include camping, picnic, and rowing on the lake. When the weather is favorable paragliders take off from Mt. Liyu just to the east of the lake, adding splashes of color to the green mountain landscape.
鯉魚潭：鯉魚潭位於花蓮縣壽豐鄉，面積約 104公頃，是花蓮縣境內最大的內陸湖泊，潭面呈南北長東西窄的橢圓形，面積因四季水量榮枯而互有消長，並因潭東的鯉魚山而得名。潭四周築有環湖公路，全程4公里，徒步１小時即可走完。遊人可在此露營、野餐、遊湖。天候佳時，潭東的鯉魚山會聚集飛行傘活動愛好者，駕馭鮮麗的飛行傘翱翔於山巔水湄間，平添山光水色。
◎Qixingtan Scenic Area：Qixingtan is located in Beipu Village, Xinzeng Township, in the northeast of Hualien City. Visitors can get there via Meilun Industrial Park by following the signs in front of the National Hualien University of Education. The beach there has an elegant arch shape. The seawater there is clean and blue. The black stones there are crystal. From here visitors can see the great green mountains afar and the twisting highways.
The Qixingtan Scenic Area is designated for bicycle touring. Along the 21km tour from Nanbin Park in Hualien City to the scenic area via Hualien Harbor and the 48 Highlands, there are different views and scenes. The Hualien County Government even built a number of recreational facilities, such as the Stone Sculpture Park, the Star Watching Plaza, the Sunrise Building, and the children's playground. Explanatory notes on the seaside ecology are available near the fishing site. A windbreak forest is used to separate a seaside botanical garden where there are rich resources of seaside animals and plants. You will always be rewarded when traveling here.
七星潭風景區：位在花蓮市區東北方，位於花蓮市新城鄉的北埔村，可取道美崙工業區，由花蓮師院前指標前行即可到達。此地海灘呈一優美的弧形海灣。海水潔淨湛藍，黑石晶瑩剔透，在此可遠眺青山蒼鬱，公路綿延。七星潭風景區以自行車道為動脈，從花蓮市南濱公園、經花蓮港、四八高地到七星潭風景區，長達21公里的旅程有不同的風光。花縣政府更興建了石雕園區、賞星廣場、觀日樓、兒童遊樂場等休憩設施，在漁場附近還有海生態的解說牌，也利用防風林區闢建海濱植物園區，動植物生態非常豊富，來一趟知性之旅絕對不虛此行。
◎Hualien Ocean Park：This 51-hectare facility is Taiwan's first theme Park focusing on the marine ecology, and the only one that combines a theme park with a nature park and a five-star Victorian-style resort hotel. One of the strongest draws of the park is its sea mammal performances, which allow visitors to get up close with dolphins and sea lions.
遠雄海洋公園：台灣首創海洋生態互動式主題樂園，在占地10公頃的主題樂園區部分，目前計有入口廣場、海洋村、海遊館、鯊魚館、海獅生態公園、海豚生態公園、海豚同遊池、海獅餵養池、嘉年華大街、水上樂園、機械樂園、兒童王國、夢幻水晶城堡等遊樂設施，園區並有空中纜車及電扶梯戴送遊客，整個園區整體建築以19世紀英國碼頭及海岸嘉年華風格為主，並融合先進的水族館設計概念，將生態環境與海洋展示結合。
◎The Wuho plateau：The Wuho plateau, located in Rueisuei Township, is famous for its tea farms, which mainly grow and process varieties of partially fermented oolong tea. But there are other attractions as well: the tropic of cancer marker, and the Wuho megaliths.
舞鶴台地：舞鶴台地位在花蓮縣瑞穗鄉，以茶園遍布的茶鄉景致而聞名，到此地來，喝天鶴茶、吃茶羊羹、茶糖、茶葉臘肉是一定不可錯過的事。吃飽喝足，拐個彎兒可去看舞鶴石柱，參觀北迴歸線標塔！
◎Rafting on the Siouguluan River：The Shiouguluan River arises on the slopes of Mt. Xiugulian and flows its way 103 kilometers until it empties into the Pacific Ocean on the East Coast. It is the longest river in eastern Taiwan, and has abundant water all year round. The river follows a winding path, flowing past Rueisuei in the East Rift Valley and cutting a gorge through the Coastal Mountain Range on its way to the sea. This portion of the river is the most popular rafting course in Taiwan, with excitement- and thrill-seeking rafters being especially numerous from May to October.
秀姑巒溪泛舟：秀姑巒溪發源於秀姑巒山，全長103公里，全年河水豐沛，為台灣東部最大的河川。 河道迂迴，流經瑞穗切穿海岸山脈，形成峽谷與曲流；每年五月到十月豐水期，可讓遊客體驗泛舟活動的刺激與快感。
◎Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area：The Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area is located in the mountain foothills three kilometers to the west of Fuyuan Village in Rueisuei Township. In addition to having the largest stand of camphor trees of any recreation area in Taiwan, its 190 hectares also features a butterfly valley (where the butterflies swarm from March to August) and scenic waterfalls.
富源森林遊樂區：富源森林遊樂區，位於瑞穗鄉富源村西側 3公里的山區，面積約190公頃，是台灣最大的樟樹林遊樂區，以蝴蝶谷和瀑布景觀而聞名。
◎Whale and Dolphin Watching：Taiwan's East Coast area is at the confluence of the Kuroshio sea currents, which have
enriched the fisheries of this area. Whales and dolphins also frequent this area, making it a good place for watching
these magnificent species. Whale and dolphin watching tours are offered all year round, but the summer is the best time
to go for stable weather. Whale watching tours are busy at Hualien Fishing Port and Shihti Fishing Port. Every single
voyage is about 2~3 hours. Tourists may enjoy not only encountering dolphins but also taking in the beautiful geological
formations along the coast. Some boats also offer educational tours in marine ecology and fishery. The depth and
diversity of experience to be found in whale watching is continually being enhanced.
賞鯨豚：由於太平洋黑潮與沿岸流在台灣東海岸交會，帶來豐富的洄游性魚類，使得花東海域成為鯨
豚聚集的地方。賞鯨成功率為全台之冠，全年都可以賞鯨，6-8月風浪平靜是最適合賞鯨的季節。花
蓮港、石梯港為賞鯨較活躍的港口。每次航程約3個小時，除了觀賞鯨豚外，部分賞鯨船也有自然景
觀、漁撈作業及其他海洋生態的體驗，增加遊憩活動的深度與多樣性。
◎Nanbin (Southern Seashore) Park：Follow the dike beside the bed of the old coastal railroad southward from Nanbin (Southern Seashore) Park, which is located beside Jhongshan Bridge, and it will take you to Nanbin (Southern Seashore) Park. Here you will find grassy areas, seaside dikes, a tourist night market, and a pigeon aviary, among other attractions. This is a fine place to stroll, gaze at the sea, splash in the surf, and collect interesting stones.
南濱公園：濱臨太平洋，佔地20餘頃，園內小橋流水，亭榭樓閣，草地上還有許多海洋生物塑像，公園規劃有露營區、椰子園、馬術區、兒童遊樂場、海上遊樂中心及民俗村等設備齊全的娛樂設施。天清氣朗時，可見拖曳傘、風箏飛揚於天空；入夜則是攤販雲集，萬燈如晝，人潮湧動。
◎Hualien Tourism Sugar Plant (Guangfu Sugar Plant)：In addition to its sugar products, the Guangfu Sugar Mill is famous for producing more than 30 kinds of naturally flavored ice items. Many people who are traveling through the town of Guangfu stop here to enjoy a huge helping of refreshing ice cream in a cool pavilion beside a pool filled with colorful koi carp. If you are hungry, you can have an appetizing and inexpensive buffet meal at the mill's restaurant.
花蓮觀光糖廠(光復糖廠)：歷經80年的製糖業務，隨著製糖業式微及加入WTO，光復糖場終於在91年4月2日包裝完最後一包糖後，畫下休止符。藉著這些深具歷史的製糖設備、日式宿舍建築及老倉庫等歷史空間再利用，發展為富歷史、教育、文化等功能的觀光休閒景點，轉型為觀光糖廠。

【Rafting Information泛舟資訊】
The rafting section of the Siouguluan River is from Rueisuei Bridge to Changhong Bridge. It is about 24 kms in length and it takes 3-4 hours to complete the trip. Rafting is permitted all year round. Usually April to October is the high season. In general, the best time for rafting is from 7:00 AM to noon. Rafting in the afternoon is relatively uncommon, and it is forbidden to start after 3:00pm.
You can take the train, Guo-guang Motor Transport and Hualian Bus (Hualian to Rueisuei) to Rueisuei; Hualian Bus back
to Hualian from Changhong Bridge; and Hualian Bus, Dingdong Bus and Guo-guang Motor Transport back to Taidong
(Chenggong to Taidong)
秀姑巒溪泛舟河段由瑞穗大橋至長虹橋，里程約24公里，需時3至4小時。全年均可泛舟，通常在4月至10月為泛舟旺季。一般泛舟放船時間為上午7時至12時，下午極少放船，15時以後禁止放船。
往瑞穗之交通可搭乘火車、國光客運及花蓮客運(花蓮-瑞穗)；由長虹橋返花蓮可搭花蓮客運，返台東
